With Scoutmaster for the Saluda Boy Scout Troop 609
“The last time we were able to use them, most of the other tents got destroyed, we were camping at the Outer Banks of NC in October of 1994. We were camping in Avon, NC when a Nor’easter hit us, October 15, 1994. Actually, it was one of the record proportions until the major one that hit a few years ago. My tent and my dads were the only two to be still standing.”
Dear Diamond Brand,
Hello, my name is Tsali,
I am from Saluda, NC, and my dad, F. Cary, was a scoutmaster for the Saluda Boy Scout Troop 609. We used to get all of our scouting stuff, like uniforms, ranks, and some of our merit badges at the old store on Hwy 25 in Fletcher/ Naples, that is now GB Shoe Warehouse. We also somehow obtained about 10 of your grey Dome tents from the late 80’s for our troop, I can’t remember if we purchased them or if they were donated. We preferred plastic lean-to shelters above anything to camp in but on a few special occasions and in winter we would use them. The last time we were able to use them, most got destroyed, we were camping at the Outer Banks of NC in October of 1994. We were camping in Avon, NC when a Nor’easter hit us, October 15, 1994. Actually, it was one of the record proportions until the major one that hit a few years ago. My tent and my dads were the only two to be still standing. However we woke up floating on our air-mattress in about 4 inches+ of water, and we were on the higher ground. Despite still standing, we suffered some broken poles. The other boy’s tents were absolutely demolished. We had to salvage what we could by combining and piecing together tents and improvising to finish out the 8-day trip, the storm hit us on the 1st morning around 5-6AM, and it pounded us until about noon. Anyway, that is one of my most memorable events involving the use of Diamond Brand equipment. Hope y’all enjoy.
Sincerely,
Tsali
Saluda, NC
